Joan is smoothing out the clay/sand mixture. The bricks are there for stepping stones until the floor dries.
The manufactuing process... Dig up
the red clay, sift it over the wheel barrow to remove the rocks and leaves, put
a bucket of clay
into the cement mixer with two buckets of sand, add water,
mix well, tote it into the house, dump it on the floor to be smoothed out to
make the floor.
