Burleigh is about 15 minutes south of Surfer's Paradise. We stayed at the Burleigh Mediterranean Resort, which was nice, but not quite as nice as I was led to believe from their website.
I was promised an ocean view, which turned out to be this:

One evening, we were sitting on the balcony and one of the apartment buildings started billowing smoke and flames and the firemen had to come put it out.
